Vocational counseling assesses an existent’s intelligence, aptitude, interests, capacities and skill situations in order to produce and follow a career path. Vocational therapists mate with businesses, government agencies, educational institutions and the employment assiduity to develop mutually salutary openings for individualities with special requirements. They also help in assessing, training and developing individualities for positions and advancement.
Everyone is different. We all are special and unique. You have your own chops and capacities, strengths likes and dislikes – about what you want to do with your life. This is reflected in the choices you make, opinions you take and plans you make for your life with regard to the educational and vocational aspects. Still, occasionally you may not be veritably clear about what you want in your life. You may not indeed be apprehensive of your strengths and limitations, interests and capacities. In the absence of these, you may make a wrong decision or unhappy educational and vocational choice.
Educational counseling helps the individual with problems related to education. It's principally concerned with helping the students in picking/ opting applicable courses of study. The counselor takes into account the aptitude, interest, capacities and specific background of the pupil to give educational counseling.
Vocational counseling aims at helping the person elect a proper vocation and prepare for it. Deciding on a career/ vocation is pivotal as it involves lots of time, trouble and plutocrat. Entering into a career which turns out to be unhappy for the person will lead to job dissatisfaction, unhappiness and maladjustment in work life. All these will affect negatively the particular life of the existent. Hence deciding on a vocation is veritably important task. Vocational counseling facilitates this decision by furnishing applicable counseling to the existent. Placement counseling is an important part of vocational counseling.
The counselor makes the individual apprehensive about his capacities, aptitude, station and interests; and helps him in a proper placement suitable to his capacities and from which he derives job satisfaction. Therefore the pretensions of educational and vocational comforting can be described as follows
• Explore, assay and develop the factors constituting their tone-conception (interests, particular rates and characteristics, values, skills etc.).
• Explore, estimate, process and classify information and indispensable education and vocation pathways with respect both to their requirements and choices and to labor request conditions.
• Integrate information about education and vocation/ career with information deduced from toneobservation so that they develop to decision- making capabilities both with respect to their exposure in education and choices in occupation (s) befitting their particular psychosocial make up.
• Produce and apply own education and vocation plans.
Hence there's a great need to equip the vast maturity of our youthful people with right vocational chops. Developing the right work station and work values, furnishing training in right chops, promoting entrepreneurial spirit in huge civic and pastoral youthful population who come out of the seminaries/ sodalities (10th and 12th standard) is a major challenge. It's in this environment that the conception of educational and vocational counseling is decreasingly assuming further significance. Educational and vocational counseling in a systematized manner is fairly a new miracle in India. One requires huge exposure to the world as a whole to be an effective counselor. Besides being a person with substantial understanding on a global scale of the frugality, educational fields, arising areas of occasion, and a good psychologist, a good counselor is one who has prosecution capability of
a) Aligning a pupil’s career pretensions and objects with available profitable openings not only in India but on a global base
b) Assessing introductory capabilities/ skill sets of a pupil and aligning them with job functions and/ or advanced education in the right field
c) Suggesting the most important field of study or career suitable for a seeker considering all data of the case
The counselor also helps the students in pre-employment conditioning, job placement services and successful adaptation to the work situation and work associates in the field of vocational counseling. Astronomically educational and vocational counseling conditioning target individualities that are
• About to make a choice with respect to their education and vocation.
• In hunt of new fields of study/ training
• Formerly employed but dissatisfied with their current occupation, hence in hunt of new areas of training and professional development.
