Advantages and dfifficulties of E-learning over the past ten years

Description

E-learning, commonly referred to as online learning or electronic learning, describes the process of learning through the use of digital tools and media. E-learning is defined as "electronically enabled learning" in plainer English. This includes anything from the many "how-to" videos on YouTube to university e-learning platforms, whole online study programmes, and virtual master classes. E-learning typically takes place online, where learning resources are accessible whenever and wherever needed.

E-learning has been incredibly popular and successful in education during the past ten years. This study uses the narrative literature review method to find the e-learning pedagogy in the last ten years by eliciting English key words such as "e-learning," "technology assisted learning," "mobile learning," "distance learning," "ubiquitous learning," "education," "teacher," and "instructor" into a large online database. The study examines the role of information technology literacy in elearning, e-learning acceptance and effectiveness, elearning outcomes, interactions in the e-learning context, adaptation to e-learning, motivation and enjoyment, elearning devices, barriers to e-learning, and the ineffectiveness of e-learning alone through a review of recent publications and major research themes. Through multidisciplinary empirical studies, future study lines could concentrate on particular e-learning conditions, elearning readiness, and adaptively.

Advantages of E-Learning

Flexibility: Flexibility in terms of time and location is the primary benefit of online learning. Learning materials are typically made available in brief modules that can be halted whenever necessary. The learning content may be readily incorporated into everyday routine whether the person log on while commuting, at work, or in personal time. Even if that person miss a live online workshop can also typically obtain written summaries or a video of the event. Therefore, e-learning is perfect for those who are employed, enrolled in school, or just want to learn more about their favorite interests or hobbies.

Availability: Online courses also significantly save time spent on administrative tasks in the corporate sector. While systems like Moodle and Blackboard make it practically impossible for schools to maintain their educational resources. If the servers are strong enough to handle it, everybody with Internet access can access learning possibilities concurrently without any physical restrictions.

Efficiency: The time needed to finish a course is drastically decreased since e-learning packages adjust to the needs of each unique learner. The needs of the entire class are taken into account when designing traditional courses. However, it is uncommon for one person to require everything that the group has to offer. There is also no need to travel to the course, of course.

Low cost: Reusing an e-learning package as frequently as needed is free of charge for the user. There are also a lot of free course offers and "premium access." E-learning is frequently less expensive than traditional learning options since it typically permits more students to enroll in a course at once.

Mobile: E-learning can be done anywhere. Only an internet connection is required. Learning resources, tutorials, and transcripts are all preserved digitally and cannot be lost with a reliable backup. These benefits alone demonstrate how versatile e-learning is. However, there are also a lot of reasons why conventional teaching approaches are still very much relevant today.

Difficulties of E-Learning

Adaptability struggle: The learning experience is completely different for students when they switch from traditional classroom training with a face-to-face instructor to computer-based instruction in a virtual classroom. They struggle to adjust to the online learning environment due to their reluctance to change, whereas it takes some time for them to get used to Course Management Systems (CMS) and computer-based learning techniques. In a conventional classroom, passively taking notes and paying attention are expected; yet, taking part in online debates or creating websites requires rapid activity. Traditional-minded students have a hard time adjusting, but they must accept the new learning environments with an open mind and heart. This mind set might change if students comprehend the advantages of eLearning and even talk about them with their friends, which would better prepare them for online education.

Technical issues: Many students struggle to keep up with their virtual classmates because they do not have access to the high bandwidth or reliable internet connections needed for online courses: Their poor monitors make it challenging for them to follow the Course Management System, which negatively affects their ability to learn. Additionally, because the majority of them reside off-campus, it is challenging for them to keep up with the course's technical requirements. Some of them visit learning resource centres for technical support even if they don't possess computers. The only way to solve this issue is for students to fully prepare themselves for the successful completion of the course by understanding exactly what kind of technology help they will require before enrolling in a particular course.
