The use of domestic animals to provide attractive power for cultivation predates recorded history. Indeed, the development of agriculture itself is closely linked to the development of the use of animal power for cultivation. Therefore this review paper overviews the equines population size, frequency and magnitude of work, welfare aspects and management practices. Improving the productivity of equines through improved managements, health care and feed resources will result in increasing opportunities of profit or income for the farming community in the world. Thus, review indicates that research on equines utilization, welfare aspects and management practices will provide direction and information which may be of significant for further research and development partners on knowledge and information for innovation. Also the indication of the review will indicate policy makers and other rural development organizations concerned with equine production, to design appropriate strategies and to back up future planning and enhance the pace of adoption of equine utilization through mechanized technological advances by using appropriate implements to improve poor harnessing, it is better to modify existing equipment rather than promote radical change.
